New UL Prices from January 9

Fares will change from January 9, 2017. The Public Transport Board decided to do this at the meeting on October 13.

“With the now decided price change, we can continue to develop public transit in the county so that we can get more people to leave behind the car and instead travel in a more climate-smart way," says Bertil Kinnunen (S), Chairman of the Public Transport Board.

“An example of service improvements during 2017 is that we are introducing a new city bus line network in Uppsala, a new line in each direction of the Upptåget train on the Uppsala - Sala route and more lines for regional bus services with many passengers. In addition, more lines with call-controlled services will be introduced," says Bertil Kinnunen.

“During 2017 an review of the bus service in Enköping will be conducted," says Bertil Kinnunen.

At the county council meeting in June the budget for 2017 was decided. For public transit the decision means that the 30-day ticket will cost SEK 795 which is an increase of SEK 45 and the pre-purchased single ticket for adults will cost SEK 28 per zone, in other words one krona more than today. Tickets purchased with travel funds will according to the same decision cost SEK 22 per zone.

Based on the council’s decision the Public Transport Board has now made a decision on other ticket prices.

In addition to increasing revenues in order to continue developing the service the costs of the UL service are also increasing due to the payments to bus and train companies who are contracted to run the service being increased.

“If we don’t increase revenues for public transit the alternative is to reduce costs and this means a reduction in the service which in turn would have a number of adverse consequences, not least for the environment," says Bertil Kinnunen.

The new fares mean an increase that varies depending on the ticket. The complete price list that applies from January 9, 2017 is available at ul.se
