SMS tickets: FAQs
Question: How do I buy an SMS ticket?
Answer: Create an SMS with the ticket code: UU or UV
UV = Uppsala Adult
UU = Uppsala Child/youth
Send it to 72472.
You will soon receive an SMS containing your bus ticket.
The bus ticket confirms that you can travel on Stadstrafiken in Uppsala and how long the ticket is valid.
You must have received the SMS ticket before you get on the bus. You must show the SMS ticket to the driver.
Question: I have bought an SMS ticket. What buses can I travel on with this ticket, and how long is the ticket valid?
Answer: The SMS ticket works just like an ordinary cash ticket for Stadstrafiken in Uppsala, but it is electronic instead of paper. The SMS ticket is valid for journeys on Stadstrafiken’s routes 1-127 in Uppsala, Bälinge and Storvreta. The SMS states clearly the time the ticket is valid for. The ticket is valid for 90 minutes after it arrives on your mobile.
Question: Which mobile operators are linked to the service?
Answer: People with mobile subscriptions or prepaid accounts with TeliaSonera, TELE2, Telenor and 3 can buy SMS tickets.
Question: I am a TeliaSonera (or TELE2/Comviq) subscriber but I cannot order an SMS ticket. Why?
Answer: The telephone companies offer both private and corporate customers the facility to block mobiles so you cannot make premium rate calls. Because the SMS ticket is a premium service, you cannot use the phone to order an SMS ticket.
Question: I am a Telenor subscriber. Why can I not buy an SMS ticket?
Answer: Telenor is one of the new operators who have joined the SMS ticket service, and it should work. Please contact Telenor Customer Service on 020-222 222 or +46 708 222 222 if it does not work.
Question: Can you cheat, for example by sending a false SMS that looks like a real ticket?
Answer: The SMS ticket system is very secure. If an inspector suspects there is something wrong with the ticket, it is checked against the details at Stadstrafiken. SMS tickets that have been tested and used in other cities have proved to work extremely well, but as usual it is a matter of passengers’ willingness to play their part.
Question: Can I get a refund for the SMS ticket if I could not travel for some reason, e.g. cancelled buses or trains, or I used a different mode of travel?
Answer: Just as with other tickets, you can claim a refund on an SMS ticket at UL’s customer services, tel 018 - 65 99 00, if the journey is cancelled. If there are traffic hold-ups, the travel guarantee applies as usual.
Question: Can an SMS ticket be passed on to someone else?
Answer: No. The SMS ticket is only valid in the mobile, with the SIM card, it was ordered from.
Question: What do I do if I need a receipt for the fare I have paid using an SMS ticket?
Answer: The fare paid for the SMS ticket is recorded on the bill from your mobile operator. For cashcard customers, the equivalent itemised bill is usually available on the internet. Contact your mobile operator for more information.
Question: What happens if the battery runs out during the journey?
Answer: You cannot go past the bus driver without showing the ticket on your mobile. But if there is a ticket inspection, the ticket inspector can call a special help desk to check that a ticket has been bought from the mobile before the battery ran out.
Question: How long do you keep a record of an SMS ticket purchase?
Answer: We are required to save the information for a year.
Question: If I make a mistake, do I also have to pay for the incorrect message?
Answer: No. Incorrect and information messages are free of charge. However, you must pay for your SMS you order with. The tariff depends on your operator and subscription.
Question: Can SMS tickets be bought with a non-Swedish mobile subscription?
