New Traffic Set up Grillby

Grillby

Grillby is growing quickly, but its current public transit system is rather limited. Commuting is big, particularly to Enköping and Bålsta/Stockholm. To meet the need of a more developed public transit system, a proposal for rerouted services has been drawn up.

Current Services

Grillby is currently serviced only by route 223. This is a circle route that travels Enköping – Lillkyrka – Grillby – Skolsta – Enköping, with 10 one-way trips per weekday. These are divided into 4 in one direction in the morning and six in the other direction in the afternoon.

Rerouted Services

With the proposal, route 223 will be replaced with a new route, which will travel from central Enköping to Grillby via Boglösa and on to Skolsta and back. This way, there are bus services in both directions between Grillby and Enköping the entire operational day. In addition, from Grillby passengers can choose to travel to Skolsta and then transfer to continue on to Uppsala and Bålsta and back again. Furthermore, the stretch Skolsta – Enköping is serviced much more frequently by other routes.

Shorter Travel Time

To create an attractive alternative to travel by car, the route travels directly from Grillby in to Enköping without going in to Lillkyrka. With this, travel time to Gustaf Adolfs plan is estimated to be about 20 minutes, compared to about 15 minutes by car.

As a result, Lillkyrka will lose the 10 trips of route 223, but it will still have 12 trips a day available through route 221. Route 223 currently has about 6 passengers a day who get on board at the bus stops in question.

The new route is expected to be run as hourly services on weekdays 5:30–22:00. The exceptions are at lunchtime, when there will be a 90-minute break to adjust the schedule to suit the needs of the high school. On Saturdays and public holidays, the route will run every other hour between 8:00 and 18:00.

The route will travel via Rösta because the road via Granhagen is too narrow for routed bus services. There is no difference in terms of time. Working with Enköping Municipality and the Swedish Transport Administration, it may be possible to add new bus stops to give even more residential areas access to public transit.

Consultation

The proposed changes were developed in consultation with Enköping Municipality.

Start of Services

The proposed changes may be implemented beginning August 2017, provided that the Public Transit Board reaches a decision by no later than April 2017.
